One day down, 140-some to go.
Well, actually Indiana requires 180, but I only worry about the seatwork time. We do more than enough outside stuff to account for the other days. As I talked before about setting up a schedule that works, our seatwork for this year will run about 140ish days. It’ll be more if things don’t get accomplished. I doubt it will be less. Either way is okay, we just have a target to plan our year around.
Anyway, the first day went relatively smoothly. Boy and Hubby had their first math ‘class’ and Girl and I remembered some Russian from last year and learned our first phrases of Japanese (or Nihongo.)
I’m still trying to pull together what we are doing for physic labs and get the stuff ordered. Most of the stuff is available at Home Training Tools, but I’m thinking I may use Radioshack for some of the circuitry. I’ll have to ask Hubby. The mechanics stuff is right up my alley, but the electricity is more his area. I’m hoping to get about 20 labs. We had more like 30 each for biology and chemistry, but I don’t see getting that many for physics. Maybe when I get them figured out, I’ll post them.

Ok. . .I am truely blown away that you know you have about 140 days planned already! I am still struggling with week 2!! Russian AND Japanese!! Holy Cow!! You are my hero! : )

oh, I don’t have 140 days planned. I’ve looked at a calendar and seen that between now and May we can only fit in about 140 days of seatwork.
Then I’ve looked at things like Boy’s physics and figured out how much we need to cover each month to be finished with it by then. These ‘goal posts’ I try to hold to (no one wants seat work in May and June!) and we try to finish enough work each week to make them.
But, things will interrupt and so I’ll shift the monthly goals to accomodate and depending on how many interruptions, we’ll finish when we finish. The system lets me be as flexible as we want, but insures that we will meet our goals for the year.
What I mean is that the kids (when they want to skip seatwork in favor of ‘xyz’,) know exactly what effect that will have. They can then decide if xyz is worth it and will just accept that we’ll finish later next spring or will plan on getting something done on a weekend or day off.
