Grad Student project

Posted in Life, the Universe and All that Jazz at 10:58 am by Meg

I’m always happy to try to support a grad student project. This appears to be legit (though I can’t be sure). So, here it is.

Since I lack foresight, I’m stuck announcing my intentions and begging participation. Here’s what I need you to do:

  1. Write a post linking to this one in which you explain the experiment. (All blogs count, be they TypePad, Blogger, MySpace, Facebook, &c.)
  2. Ask your readers to do the same. Beg them. Relate sob stories about poor graduate students in desperate circumstances. Imply I’m one of them. (Do whatever you have to. If that fails, try whatever it takes.)
  3. Ping Technorati.

Basically, he wants to try to see how long it takes to bounce something around the blogging world. I highly recommend that you go out and read his description before you participate.

Sob story - skip if you want, I’m complying with point 2 - Grad students are the underpaid/overworked part that makes a lot of university systems work. They work under a clock of how long they can get ’support’ and it’s not unheard of said support being withdrawn with only a few months warning. They are expected to know ‘everything’ that is going on in their area (even if it’s written in another language) and to produce something of value and originality before said ’support’ goes elsewhere.
