Now this is the way to do geography!
Now I don’t know these people - they are friends of some of the homeschoolers in our local group - but what they are getting ready to do next year sounds like a wonderful way to bring the world alive for their kids.
Here’s what my friend said:
I have a couple of friends who used to live around here, who now live in New Hampshire and they homeschool their four kids. They are getting ready to embark on a new adventure and they are hoping to share it with other homeschooling families.
It is called EdVenture and they’ll be taking a year to bicycle all throughout Europe and Northern Africa, sharing their experiences as they go, starting in May 2008. If you are interested, check out their web site at www.edventureproject.com.
And while I wouldn’t want to touch doing the trip by bicycle, I can freely say “I want to go along!“

This family’s projects makes me truly envious. We own a bicycle store, and that is precisely the reason that we can’t just pick up and do something like this. Being self-employed gives us all sorts of freedom and autonomy, but it does keep us sort of tied down to a location for most of the year. What else keeps us tied down, I wonder?… Hey, maybe that’s a subject for a post.
