Any good pictures of Dogs?

Posted in Books at 5:07 pm by Meg

It has to be something that you’ve taken.

My sister is getting ready to publish her third book about dogs. She’s looking for sharp pictures of dogs playing with other dogs or with people.

I’m not going to publish her email and physical address here, but if you have something you want to submit, leave a comment asking for them, and I’ll send them to you.

Here’s her request:

Want to see your dog in a ****** book?

I am looking for good, sharp photos of dogs playing - all kinds of dogs playing with dogs, as well as all kinds of dogs playing with humans, for my upcoming book on Dog Play.

If you’re interested, you will need to get a photo release form from me, fill it out and sign it, and send it along with your photo(s) on disc.
If your photos are selected, you will receive photo credit in the book as well.

To get the release, e-mail me privately and I will e-mail the form to you.

POSTMARK DEADLINE FOR PHOTOS: 1/16/08.

THANKS!!!!

So, to make it clear,

1. email me or leave a comment asking for the contact info

2. I’ll send you her email (for you to email her for a release form) and physical address

3. Contact my sister with your  photos!

I’m still here

Between this killer cold that is going around and Boy totally sitting on the computer dealing with filling out college applications (online mind you) and writing essays for said applications, I haven’t been getting more than about 5 mins of ‘free’ time on the computer.

So, I haven’t been reading anything and obviously not posting anything here.

In fact, I’m now getting kicked off MY computer once again.

For the Christians and Pagans in the audience

We have this news release from Rome on the birth of Christmas.

Whatever the reason, I hope you are enjoying these last days of the year with family and friends!

Getting into college

Posted in COLLEGE, The nuts and bolts of it at 9:51 am by Meg

This article from the WSJ is very intimidating when it comes to thinking about next year. Some of the colleges that Boy is applying to are the ones accepting very low percentages of the applicants.

…especially given Brown’s record-low acceptance rate of about 13.5% last year. “A 14% acceptance rate isn’t a good statistic,” she says. “If someone said you had a 14% chance of living, that’s nowhere near being reassured.”

And of course, no matter how hard we work as his parents to make sure everything is filled in and submitted correctly, we do not have the relationship with a college that school counselors enjoy.

Still, many parents enroll their kids in private schools for the trump card that top prep schools have long held: the powerful, highly connected college counselor. The college counselors at many private schools have spent years building relationships with college admissions offices.

Of course, the flip side is that these schools are also looking to make sure that the ‘interest’ groups have enough kids that are interested in them to continue. So, hopefully an independent minded, martial artist that is interested in both theatre and Magic: The Gathering and D&D and has a good transcript and test scores will be someone they will be interested in rounding out their campus.

Jo

Posted in Life, the Universe and All that Jazz at 8:17 pm by Meg

I have an amazing friend.

Her strength dealing with her own life is enough to shame me, but she also has such a caring heart that she will put her own pain aside to reach out to others.

She has 3 kids she’s raising.  The two oldest have dead-beat fathers, but her current husband is trying to be a dad to all of them.  Her youngest is  just barely 5 years old. Even before becoming a teen-aged mom, she’d had a tough life.

We lived in  New Mexico for 10 months for Hubby’s work. Jo and her family entered our life when they started homeschooling.  Our daughters hit it off and even now (a year and a half later) they speak on the phone a couple of times a week.

Jo and I don’t talk nearly that often. We talked today.  I wish I was there to give her a hug and help her.

Her cancer is back.

They hope to be able to remove the lumps in her neck, but the lumps under her arm, in her breast, and in her lungs are going to stay for the time being.

She knew it was coming.  But the kind of cancer she has is suppose to grow slowly.  These lumps weren’t there at her last scan.

She knew it was coming, but she just wants to be able to raise her youngest and see him as a adult.

If you’ve wondered why she’s been quiet lately, it’s because she’s not feeling well and sitting at the computer is low on her list.
