January 2008

You are currently browsing the monthly archive for January 2008.

but it’s another thing when you’re the wind.

The cold front the came in Wednesday evening did a lot of small damage for all the blowing around we got.  I know the winds were higher elsewhere, but our neighbor’s online weather station registered 42 mph winds for our street.

We didn’t find our storm related problem until I was washing up for bed last night.

There was NO hot water.

Now, I had had a not quite so hot shower in the morning, but Boy had showered first, so I had chalked it up to following him.  But now at the end of day, there was only cold water available.

We’ve had this happen before, but that was with the old water heater.  The wind blows out the flame.

So there I am at midnight trying to light the thing – since I do NOT want a cold shower in the morning!

I love the ignition switch – but why do they put the little window right down on the floor so I have to lie in the dust and yucky stuff to see if it’s lighting?

It’s only good for one day – January 30!

We have a T-shirt!

Yep, a T-shirt from U Pitt Honors College for Boy. They have not only admitted Boy, but they want him in the honors program.

and…..

They’ve given him an $10,000 academic scholarship (out of state tuition is about $22,000) and have asked him to apply for a special Chancellor’s Scholarship (Full tuition, room and board and fees for 4 years – and money for books and a study abroad scholarship)

The application is a bear though with 3 long essays on topics that aren’t easy. Oh well, he wants to do it.

And in other news, we slapped some grades on the transcript for Purdue and then emailed them a pdf of it – and they are happy. How happy we’ll see.

We are in the new house and scrambling to make cooking a possibility.  Hubby is working hard as a cart-horse.
I wanted to take 5 mins. to point anyone who hasn’t seen it yet to go read both Garrison Keillor’s attack against non-Christians celebrating Christmas and while I’ve seen a few responses, I appreciate Friendly Atheist’s.

  • Changes

I’ve been talking about our real-life changes and with moving and all I suspect that that I’ll be fairly quiet for the next couple of weeks.
But I’m also considering a virtual move.  Ron and Andrea have been wonderful, but for a couple of reasons I’m contemplating moving my blog to another site.

  • Good Morning!!!

Remember last month when I said that Parts of our Town need to wake up?
In my running around this morning, I went past that church.
Now I don’t know what they have had on their sign for the last 4 weeks.
And I don’t know the context that this is coming from.
    And I didn’t have a chance [...]
