Girls, Girls, Girls

Got your attention, didn’t it?

Well, it’s not what you’re thinking.

We’re talking about hosting another foreign exchange student for next year.

Actually, Girl wants us to.  I think it’s mostly that she doesn’t want to end up doing all the chores around here.

So, we’re looking over the options.

Now, our first student came to us with a week’s notice. She was already coming and needed a home.  A friend was hosting and I mentioned that we’d talked about doing it at some point.  Next thing I know, she’s here in our spare bedroom.

Our second student came with more notice, but we really didn’t have any choice.  We wanted a girl and our local contact had 3 kids coming in the fall and only one girl.  End of story.

This time we get to go through the website and FIND someone.  There are 57 girls listed on the website.

It just feels funny, trying to pick and choose.

‘Do we want Sally who is 17 from Sweden and has interests in basketball, listening to music, and movies, or Jennifer from Japan who is 18 and has interests in books, running, and ballet.’

‘Then there’s Ginny from Germany who is 16 or Maria from Mexico who is 15…’

And all you get is a handful of facts - first name, age, country, interests, and religion.  For a person that’s going to live in our house for a year.

At this point, Girl would like someone closer to her own age, and we’re thinking of steering away from someone from Germany or Columbia - since we’ve hosted from those two countries before.  But that still leaves a lot of choices!

Sounds like fun. Age should narrow it down somewhat but otherwise it is probably just luck.

Good luck and I hope you have more fun with yours than I did with mine.
