And away he goes

Posted in Life, the Universe and All that Jazz at 7:57 am by Meg

That’s it, about 4 PM we’ll be taking off to Texas (driving) to go drop Boy off (dodging all that rain down there).

Boy has been hard at work collecting all the stuff he thinks he’ll need and making a list of what we are going to buy before we return home. The pile has been growing for the last 3 days and I’m starting to wonder if the 5 of us will also fit in the car.

It’s kind of funny. I’m happy to see him go, it’s what he wants and all, but watching him clean up his room and empty it out, feels really strange.

(Yes, I did pull half the back seat out of the van and that is it sitting under the blanket, sleeping bag, book, and axe)

What’s not in the picture is the “other” suitcase and his martial arts bag is hidden by the garment bag. And then there’s still the stuff that the rest of us need to be traveling for 6 days. - fun!

Wow! Good luck fitting inside the van! :) I’m sure this weekend will be an emotional roller coaster… letting go is never easy for mothers, no matter what step along the road we’re taking. Enjoy your trip!

    Car. Top. Carrier.

Good luck with your fledgling. I do know what you’re going through. It was only a year ago that I put Sarah on a plane….

I agree with Doc. That was my first thought, too. I’m having vague flashbacks to when I went off to university (over 25 years ago; what’s with that?). It also involved a long drive and I can’t imagine how we got it all in.

I bet your emotions will be up and down a bit over the next little while. Coming home to his empty room will be harder.

I’m having an empty nest feeling reading your post (I’m so glad ds#1 is only 12). Have a good, safe drive, and hope he’ll settle in nicely!
